This book is full of typos - typos that are important to laboratory procedure. In my honest opinion, this book needs to be gone over and corrected. It's an embarrassment to the classroom.
For example:
Experiment 11 - the number four data table says "10 molar solution" and should be "1 molar solution". Question number two in the reflected exercise says "procedure 3" and should be "procedure 4".
Chromic acid reagent is toxic and should not be used by students at this level (not to mention expensive to dispose). It is used in experiments 23 and 24. Phenol is also dangerous and is used in experiment 24. Experiment 30 uses a reagent with a carcinogen - Seliwanoff, which, understandably, should not be used. Removing this reagent invalidates the entire scope of the experiment.
Question five in experiment 23's reflective exercise is beyond the scope of the covered material.
Olestra (in pure form) potato chips no longer exist on the market, and have not for many years. Experiment 32 requires them.
Some materials necessary are no longer available - and have NOT been for nearly 10 YEARS! The chromatography plate in experiment 28 has no suitable replacement.
The procedures in all experiments are generally unclear, which is a concern when dealing with chemicals - especially ones that are dangerous as mentioned above.
