About the Author
Douglas C. Giancoli obtained his BA in physics (summa cum laude) from the University of California, Berkeley, his MS in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his PhD in elementary particle physics at the University of California, Berkeley. He spent 2 years as a post-doctoral fellow at UC Berkeley’s Virus lab developing skills in molecular biology and biophysics. His mentors include Nobel winners Emilio Segré and Donald Glaser.
He has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses, traditional as well as innovative ones, and continues to update his texbooks meticulously, seeking ways to better provide an understanding of physics for students.
Doug’s favorite spare-time activity is the outdoors, especially climbing peaks. He says climbing peaks is like learning physics: it takes effort and the rewards are great.

It's really a good book and it explains the application of physics in depth and making it understandable. It's not a self study book though, I needed my teacher's help and this textbook I was able to make an A in College Physics even though I took high school physics 10 years ago.

Cover was a little more beat up than I expected. But a brand new shiny book does not necessarily help me learn the same material. Everything inside was just fine!

Too much text.

Overall, this is a decent textbook. The authors cover everything that's needed to know for any general Physics course.
However, a major flaw and advantage is the amount of information compressed within 1000 pages. Providing dozens of explanations and examples in each chapter does help students to better relate to the meaning behind the formulas. But by doing this constantly, the book must be slowly read with a strong attention span.
The problem with this book is focus. There is too much design, text, and colors going on at any given page.
I recommend reading "Cracking the AP Physics" or "Basic Physics" before diving into this book. Mainly because those two books offer simple and clear design, text and color; reducing the stress that comes from learning Physics.
So, what is Torque?
